Shay Given has been named in the Irish squad to take on Argentina in the first international football match in the Aviva Stadium on August 11.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni named Given in the 28-man squad after the Manchester City star recovered from a shoulder injury.

The squad also includes 11 players who took part in the summer training camp in May with Cillian Sheridan joining his compatriots after the Under-21 game against Estonia on August 10.

“It will be a special occasion for everyone to be involved in the first ever game in Aviva stadium and Argentina will be a test for our players," Trapattoni said.

"The game comes at a crucial time in our preparation for the European Championship qualifying campaign and we must use it to strengthen our squad for the opening qualifiers against Armenia and Andorra in September.”
