Gareth Southgate’s appointment as England boss was met with Pizza Hut gifs, Alan Partridge and a David Brent video

In altogether unsurprising news, the FA have named Gareth Southgate permanent England manager.

The former Middlesbrough and England under-21 boss has been offered a four-year contract, after acting as interim boss for their last four fixtures.

For some, it’s a well earned and entirely appropriate appointment.

For others, not so much.

But in the main, it was just another funny footnote in a farcical chapter of England’s history.

Generally however, the decision was met with a lack of energy.

Gareth’s first job will be to get us out of our seats – over to you Gareth.
