Waterford and Tipperary have agreed to stage the provincial decider at Semple Stadium Thurles,
which will see Premier County have home advantage.
Déise chiefs conceded that Walsh Park is simply not suitable to hold this novel pairing and the
counties do not have a home and away agreement.
The sides would normally use Cork’s Páirc UÍ Chaoimh, which is now out of commission for
redevelopment.
It is believed both County Boards sat down earlier in the week and the Munster Council’s CCC
(Competitions Control Committee) confirmed the July 12 fixture last night.
Waterford, who are the Nation League Champions, are no strangers to success at Thurles following
their victories over Cork in the League final and Championship.
A number of other venues, including Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney and the Gaelic Grounds in
Limerick, were also considered before the decision was made.
Bookmakers have installed Tipperary as the favourites for this eagerly anticipated Munster Final
following their impressive victory over Limerick last Sunday.
However, Derek McGrath’s Waterford side have been extremely impressive having gone unbeaten
all season and will hope to rely on their blend of youth and experience.
