"But what'll I do without Facebook?!"

WATCH: Meet the Irish team giving up their smartphones

The Galway Ladies Football panel are handing in their smartphones for the month of June.

Most of would be very slow to give up the devices we are so reliant on, but the players are doing it because they want to encourage people to stop 'scrolling, scrolling, scrolling' and instead to talk to each other.

In place of their smartphones, the girls will use phones that can only call or text for the months - no internet access at all.

To promote their message they made a light-hearted video clip with a serious point.

“We are trying to highlight the link between over-use of social media and issues such as depression, captain Edel Concannon explained. “Though we realise that it's going to be tough for the younger girls (to hand in their phones) because it's part of their life.”

The Galway girls hope to raise €10,000 for Pieta House West which provides a service, free of charge, to anyone affected by suicide or deliberate self-harm.

If you would like to donate to this great cause you can do so here.

With thanks to @JeromeQuinn for the video.
