Ahead by 0-10 to 0-0 after 16 minutes, Wexford never lay down, with Paddy Purcell opening the students account in the 19th minute.

Little separated the sides in the opening stages, with Westmeath starting brightly thanks to points from Brendan Murtagh (0-10) as they took an early 0-2 to 0-0 advantage.

Scores from Flynn and Eanna Burke levelled the tie, and the sides were also level at 0-3 apiece before Galway drove on.

Burke and Flynn were to the fore with Padraig Brehony and Joseph Cooney also on target as Galway took an 0-11 to 0-9 interval lead.

The visitors moved seven points clear early on the restart, with Dean Higgins, Brian Molloy and Flynn on target.

Murtagh kept Westmeath in touch with his dead-ball accuracy but Flynn and Burke continue to punish Westmeath.

Flynn netted Galway's only goal, seven minutes from the end, following a Cooney pass to cement an eight-point win.
