TWEETS: Connacht GAA fans unhappy with venue for final

Connacht last night announced the venue for the Connacht football final between Mayo and Sligo on July 19, and many GAA fans are very unhappy with their choice.

Sligo will face Mayo in Hyde Park in the Connacht final on July 19.

Most supporters expected it to be in either Galway’s Pearse Stadium or MacHale Park in Castlebar, but organisers have chosen Hyde Park in Roscommon to hold the venue.

Initial reaction was overwhelmingly negative.

The Connacht GAA website listed geographical location of counties, expected attendance and capacities of grounds in the province.

They also said they had put an Event Management Plan in place which will give a capacity of 20,000 + for the Stadium - enough to accommodate the expected attendance.

Many of the online complaints referred to the lack of toilets/use of portaloos at the ground, but the Connacht GAA post did not make any specific reference to toilet facilities.

There were also concerns about parking and the availability of tickets.
