Chin has a soccer pedigree, having lined out with Waterford United for six months in 2011, and played both hurling and Gaelic football for his county in 2013.

Since then Chin has solely pursued hurling at inter-county level and is in contention for an All Star nomination for his performances with the Model County this year.

Youths are 11th in the table with six games to go, and six points clear of bottom-of-the-table Longford Town.

Their manager Shane Keegan confirmed the news to NewsTalk’s Off The Ball this evening.

“Lee is obviously a fantastic hurler, he’s a great Gaelic footballer but he’s a brilliant soccer player,” said Keegan. “I’d seen him play a few times in the Oscar Traynor League and he’s a cracking player.

“We have a little bit of an injury crisis at the moment at the back, so I just made a couple of enquiries with Lee to see if he could come on board and potentially give us a dig out, given that his hurling commitments were finished up for a short while.

“I think he can be a great addition. You can imagine the kind of player he is. He’s an athlete, he gets around the place. But he can play as well.

“This is not Lee embarking on a League of Ireland career, but Lee is a very proud Wexford man and he was talking about how proud he was to see Wexford Youths competing at the top level. When I said he might be able to make a contribution to keeping us at that level, he said ‘Yeah’, he’ll see what he can do for us.

“We’ll make use of him while we can, that’s for sure.”
