Kerry fans still on a high after Sunday’s All Ireland win have another reason to celebrate - Tommy Walsh is reportedly set to return home from Australia.
The Kerins O'Rahilly's club man is currently playing with the Sydney Swans in the AFL and has been offered a contract extension.
But Walsh is thought to favour a return to Ireland and intends to leave the club after this weekend’s Grand Final in Melbourne.
The 26-year-old won the All Ireland with Kerry in 2009 and spoke ahead of Sunday’s final about his longing to play for his county again.
“It really is a matter of when and not if”, Walsh said, speaking in RTÉ’s ‘Thank GAA it’s Friday’.
I'm out of contract at the end of this year so there’s a decision to be made. I’d love to be back there.”
Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has spoken since their All Ireland win and is also positive about the chances of a Walsh return:
“Would I expect him (Tommy Walsh) back?” said Fitzmaurice. “I’d say there’s a good chance he’ll be back, yeah.”
