Tipperary GAA player Eddie Connolly has passed away

Former Tipperary hurling and football player Eddie Connolly passed away last night.

This morning the Tipperary GAA released a press release stating: “It is with great regret and sadness that we learned of the death of Eddie Connolly who sadly passed away last night peacefully at home with his family.”

The young man was battling brain cancer and was trying a new cancer treatment in Spain.

The Loughmore Castleiney man had played with his local club and with Tipperary for many years.

He had won County and Munster Club Championship honours with Loughmore Castleiney and also captained the Tipperary to Munster and All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling success in 2012.

Eddie Connolly was also part of the Tipperary Senior Football panel in 2006 and 2007.

A special “Night at the Dogs” evening is being held tonight at the Thurles Greyhound Stadium. The event is in aid of The Eddie Connolly Trust Fund which was established to help fund Connolly’s cancer treatment.

At the wishes of Eddies family, the event is still taking place.
