Sunday Game subject to criticism for cutting Geary’s All-Ireland speech short

RTÉ bosses have come in for criticism after cutting Cork’s All-Ireland winning captain Anna Geary’s acceptance speech short in favour of going to an ad break.

Geary was delivering her speech in the aftermath of her side’s thrilling 2-19 to 1-09 victory over Kilkenny in yesterday’s Liberty Insurance All-Ireland final.

The win handed the Leesiders their first title since 2009 when they also overcame the Cats to claim the title.

In the midst of the celebrations, however, some viewers were irked by the national broadcasters’ decision to cut Geary’s acceptance speech short.

The Rebels had mounted a brilliant comeback in the second half to win the game - with goals from

Jenny O’Leary on the 41st minute which drew the sides level; and Angela Walsh, in the game’s final sequence of play.

RTÉ Sport did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
