Sligo star Charlie Harrison out for the season

Sligo footballers will be without All-Star defender Charlie Harrison for the rest of the season after it was confirmed that he had suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The injury occurred in training two weeks ago and results of a subsequent scan have confirmed the player’s worst fears.

The news comes as a blow to Sligo and new manager Niall Carew, who has seen improved results thanks to the return of some key players.

Harrison actually made his inter-county debut with London in 2004, but was soon a regular for Sligo, starring as the Yeatsmen won the Connacht championship in 2007 – the county’s first in 32 years.

In 2010, the St John’s clubman became just the fourth Sligo player to win an All Star, when he was rewarded for a series of outstanding performances at corner-back.
