Powerful GAA video on mental health: ‘If a teammate was down, wouldn’t you lift them back up?’

Dublin GAA club Cuala have released a compelling video today, reminding viewers of the importance of caring for mental health.

The short clip draws parallels between how treat physical injury and how we should care for mental pain.

“What if you couldn’t play the next match, wouldn’t you tell your teammates and your coach?,” it asks viewers. “Wouldn’t you get help from a trained professional and look after yourself?

“And if a teammate was down, wouldn’t you lift them back up?”

The film's producer Colmán McKenna explained: "What we wanted to do with the video was to open a discussion about how we look after our mental health, and to try and normalise it, by comparing our mental health to our physical health."

The video was released as part of the GAA's healthy club initiative.
