History and drama rolled into one Seamus Darby moment at the end of Sunday's Munster Club SFC final as Clonmel Commercials claimed a famous first provincial title with an injury-time goal from Michael Quinlivan in Mallow.

The hows and wherefores are for later.

This was a fairytale finish for the Tipperary club contesting their fifth Munster club final.

Two points down as the clock ticked past 60 minutes, Seamus Kennedy lobbed in one desperate ball which broke to the one man Commercials would want it to break to - Quinlivan.

Though surrounded by bodies, he drilled a left footed beauty low past Micheal A Martin to break Nemo Rangers hearts.

It seemed that Nemo, with a pair of late points from Paul Kerrigan and sub Jack Horgan, had relied on experience of big situations to edge this highly competitive decider.

Clonmel looked in better shape for much of the second half, but in the final third the Cork champions still looked more composed.

Clonmel led 0-7 to 0-5 after 42 minutes, but Kerrigan and a Luke Connolly free levelled.

As Nemo emptied the bench, Kerrigan looked to have put them in the driving seat, but there was a Seamus Darby lurking to spoil their day and send Commercials into ecstacy.

It was harsh on Nemo but it would be a stone that wouldn't have been moved by the emotional scenes at the final whistle as fairytale turned to reality for Charlie McGeever's side.

The first-half underlined how positive intent can overcome the direst of circumstances and conditions. Both sides came to play, and that attitude was manifestly evident in the range of football skills on show, many of which delivered long range points.

Veterans James Masters (2) and David Niblock led the way for the Cork champions, but they were matched stride for stride by an assured Clonmel, with captain Kevin Harney dropping back into the role of a covering wing back - but still surging forward to claim his side's first point.

Jason Lonergan and Aldo Matassa also scored from range, and against the breeze, while the talented Michael Quinlivan split the uprights with a 45.

After Niblock edged Nemo in front 0-3 to 0-2 after 13 minutes, it was point for point all the way to the interval, Clonmel's Ian Fahey picking Nemo defender David O'Donovan's pocket to tee up midfielder Jack Kennedy to make it 0-5 apiece in the 28th minute.

There was only seven second half scores and one goal - a historic, never to be forgotten one if you're a football person from Clonmel.
