O'Rourke set for Monaghan job

Malachy O'Rourke is poised to succeed Eamonn McEneaney as manager of the Monaghan senior footballers.

A statement on the Monaghan County Board website confirmed that O'Rourke 'will be recommended as senior football county manager to the County Committee meeting next Monday night'.

O'Rourke previously managed his native Fermanagh between 2007 and 2010, helping them reach the 2008 Ulster final which they lost to Armagh after a replay.

His managerial CV also includes an Ulster Club Championship title success with the Loup from Derry, and county title-winning stints with Tyrone's Errigal Ciaran and Cavan Gaels.

Derrylin man O'Rourke has been selected ahead of two other candidates who were reportedly interviewed for the job - Down assistant manager Aidan O'Rourke and ex-Clare boss Michael McDermott.

Monaghan have been without a manager since McEneaney stepped down in mid-July following their All-Ireland qualifier loss to Laois.
