Mystery of Darran O’Sullivan facial injuries solved

Football fans watching the All-Ireland on Sunday were confused by Darran O’Sullivan sporting a taped-up cut on his nose, which he had before the match started.

The injury was clearly visible when he lifted the Sam Maguire after Kerry’s hard-fought win.

The player himself has now solved the mystery.

O'Sullivan posted this video to his Instagram account, showing him having a painful looking run-in with a pitchside gate in Fitzgerald stadium in Killarney last week.

The forward was running full tilt to claim a ball at Kerry training before Sunday's All-Ireland win and collided with the steel gate at top speed.

Reports that the video was recorded by the infamous “spy in the tree” have not been confirmed.
