Mickey Harte to remain as Tyrone manager for two more years

Mickey Harte will extend his 13-year term in charge of Tyrone by at least two more years, as the Tyrone County Board confirmed his reappointment.

Last week the three-time All-Ireland winner met with Board officials to discuss his tenure, resulting in tonight’s two-year extension.

“Following a meeting of the County Committee tonight, Coiste Contae Thir Eoghain wish to confirm that Mickey Harte will continue to manage the Tyrone Senior Football team for the 2016 and 2017 seasons,” a Tyrone statement read.

Harte led the Red Hand county to an All-Ireland semi-final for the sixth time under his management this year, losing out to Kerry by four points. That came after a difficult spring campaign ended in relegation from Division 1 of the League.

The extension means that the country’s longest serving football manager will remain at the top-level, seeking to add another Sam Maguire to Tyrone’s collection of 2003, 2005 and 2008 successes.

The All-Ireland U21 winning mentors, manager Feargal Logan, Peter Canavan and Brian Dooher, were also kept on in their roles for 2016 and 2017.

That combination of former Tyrone footballers will now seek to repeat that U21 victory with a new crop of players.
