Mayo County Board warns supporters of fraudulent fundraising activity

For the second time in three years, the Mayo County Board have had to warn supporters of fraudulent fundraising activity, writes John Fogarty.

In August 2013, officials issued a statement informing fans that people had falsely claiming to be raising money for county teams’ training funds.

Back then, supporters received phone-calls from individuals purporting to be from the county board who asked them would they be in a position to contribute financially to support the senior and minor teams. Failing that, they were asked to provide details of those who might be able to do so.

Now the board’s executive have been compelled to make a similar plea concerning the senior team. “These organisations are using the success of our teams to mislead our very loyal supporters into contributing financially claiming that their funds will go towards the team training funds.

“Supporters should be aware that the only funds raised that go towards our team training funds are those raised under our Cáirde Mhaigheo fundraising umbrella and only authorised by the Executive of Mayo County Board.”

Those supporters who aren’t sure of the legitimacy of fundraising activities for the team training fund have been encouraged to contact the Mayo County Board office on 094-9250487 or any officer of the executive.
