Galway 0-10 Laois 2-10

Laois held Galway scoreless in the second half to secure their second win of the league campaign at Tuam Stadium.

Donie Kingston and substitute Tom Shiel got the goals for the visitors as they made the most of having the wind at their backs in the second half, scoring an unanswered 1-9.

Galway suffered their third defeat of the campaign despite leading 0-10 to 1-1 at the break with the wind at their backs

Paul Conroy set up Adrian Varley for their opening point in the second minute but a free from Ross Munnelly levelled proceeding soon after.

Laois didn’t score again until the 19th minute while Galway had four different scorers, three coming from frees.

Peadar Óg Ó Griofa, Shane Walsh and Paul Conroy got the frees while Gary O’Donnell kicked a nice point from play.

But Galway were stung with a bizarre goal just before the 20 minute mark. Goalkeeper Brian O’Donoghue was inexplicably dispossessed on his 21-yard line by Donie Kingston and he slotted into the empty net.

But Galway kicked the five remaining scores of the first-half – Ó Gríofa scored his second free before two Shane Walsh efforts gave them a 0-8 to 1-1 lead in the 26th minute.

Galway were in command but Laois were dangerous in the final third and Donie Kingston had a chance to get his second goal but O’Donoghue redeemed himself to save brilliantly on the half-hour.

Ó Gríofa kicked two more as Galway held a 0-10 to 1-1 advantage at half-time but two quick-fire Kingston frees dragged Laois back into it.

Wing-back Darren Strong got the visitors' first point of the match from play as he spilt the posts after 45 minutes. Kingston scored another free to make it 0-10 to 1-5 after 49 minutes.

Munnelly got his first of the second half with another free from close range before Galway were dealt a major blow. Damien Comer was given a second yellow card by Marty Duffy for dissent in the 62nd minute. With Galway reeling from Comer's dismissal, Munnelly tagged on another point to level the scores.

And Laois got the crucial score of the half in the 68th minute as Tom Shiel raised a green flag. From the kick-out after Munnelly's point, Galway lost possession in defence and Shiel lobbed O'Donoghue to make it 2-7 to 0-10 with 12 minutes remaining.

Two Kingston frees and a point from substitute Stephen Attride left the final score 2-10 to 0-10 to the visitors condemning Galway to their third loss in as many matches.
