Laois and Kilkenny to contest final after securing wins
Laois and Kilkenny will contest the Bord Gais Energy Leinster Under-21 Hurling final on July 11 after securing semi-final wins tonnight.
At Dr. Cullen Park, Laois registered a slender 0-15 to 0-14 victory over Carlow with Stephen Maher scoring eight points for the O'Moore youngsters.
The sides were level on six occasions in a game that was played in extremely wet conditions.
Carlow stormed into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead after six minutes, but Laois battled back to lead by 0-9 to 0-8 at the interval - in the main thanks to the efforts of Maher.
The sides were level on four occasions in the second half, but Laois opened up a two-point lead late on.
Carlow battled hard for scores but defences were on top with Laois full-back Gearoid Burke denying John Michael Nolan when a goal looked on. While Martin Kavanagh (0-4) cut the gap, Carlow could not find an equalising score.
Meanwhile, at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny came from 1-4 to 0-1 down early on to run out impressive 3-20 to 4-6 winners over Wexford.
Wexford got off to a superb start with Garry Moore netting a 12th minute goal, but Kilkenny offered an immediate response as Walter Walsh broke through for a goal.
That goal kicked start a magnificent spell for the hosts who registered 2-8 without reply, with John Power claiming Kilkenny's second goal.
The Cats led by 2-9 to 1-5 at the interval, and failed to ease up in the second half although Jack Guiney netted a late brace of goals.
Meanwhile, Fermanagh claimed Ulster Under-21 Hurling Shield honours following a 0-12 to 0-10 win over Tyrone in Clones.
