Kilkenny's Fennelly suffers fractured ankle09/05/2012 - 12:16:03
Star midfielder Michael Fennelly is set to miss Kilkenny's defence of their Leinster Senior Hurling Championship crown after fracturing his right ankle.
Fennelly sustained the injury during the second half of the Cats' Allianz Hurling final win over Cork last Sunday, and also suffered some ligament damage.
The Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman met with Dr Tadhg O'Sullivan in Waterford yesterday where he was told that the injury will sideline him for up to 10 weeks.
He joins a star-studded injury list for the reigning All-Ireland champions which includes Henry Shefflin, Michael Rice, Noel Hickey, Aidan Fogarty and Richie Power.
Manager Brian Cody is hoping to have Shefflin, Richie and Power back for the Leinster semi-final against Dublin, Laois or Carlow on June 23.
But Fennelly will definitely miss that game and should Kilkenny retain their provincial title, the 2011 Hurler of the Year will be out of action until the semi-final stage of the All-Ireland Championship.
