Kerry to start Championship without Ó Sé
One of Kerry's defensive lynchpins, Marc Ó Sé, will be absent from their side when they tackle Tipperary in Thurles on Sunday.
Ó Sé suffered a hamstring tear in a recent training session and has been ruled out of the Munster SFC quarter-final.
He saw a consultant in Dublin yesterday and should be back available for a semi-final clash with Cork on Sunday, June 10 should Jack O'Connor's men, as expected, overcome Tipp.
The four-time All-Ireland winner remains a vital cog in the Kerry machine - so much so that this will be the first time Ó Sé has not started a Championship match since 2004.
Back then, he was introduced as a substitute in place of Aidan O'Mahony during the Kingdom's Munster semi-final victory over Cork.
For this weekend's provincial opener, Ó Sé's older brother Tomás is set to make his 78th senior appearance for Kerry after serving a two-match suspension.
Kerry's current captain Colm Cooper has recovered from injury for the Tipp game as have Seamus Scanlon and Daniel Bohan, although doubts remain over the fitness of Donnchadh Walsh who has been nursing a niggling groin injury.
O'Connor added a number of Under-21 players to his Championship panel following their recent provincial final defeat to Cork - James Walsh, Jack Sherwood, Stephen O'Brien and Mark Griffin all received call-ups.
