James O’Donoghue to miss League campaign

Kerry’s James O'Donoghue is unlikely to play any part in Kerry’s Allianz League campaign as he is set to undergo surgery on Friday.

O’Donoghue has had ongoing injury problems with his left shoulder - missing the opening match of this year’s Munster Championship because of a shoulder strain.

The player went on to play a major part in Kerry's All-Ireland success; scoring a total of 4-24 including 10 points during the Munster final win over Cork.

He had hoped to resolve the issue without surgery, but GAA.ie confirmed he is scheduled to undergo surgery in Dublin on Friday, with an expected recovery time of up to six months.

That time-frame rules the 2014 Player of the Year out of the League campaign with Kerry fans hoping he will be fit for the Kingdom's opening Championship match - against the winners of Waterford v Tipperary in June next year.
