Injury worries for Tipperary ahead of replay

Tipperary have a number of injury concerns ahead of the All Ireland replay against Kilkenny on Saturday week .

Captain Brendan Maher has not yet fully recovered from a calf injury sustained in the drawn game. He is expected to be fit in time for the replay, but the concern is that he will have had very little time on the pitch beforehand.

It is a similar situation with forward Patrick Maher. He injured his quad muscles in training last week and although he is expected to recover by September 27, he is unable to train with his teammates this week.

Tipperary selector Paudie O’Neill spoke to GAA.ie last night about the issue.

“You’re just hoping things will come right,” said O’Neill. “It’s more the fact that their preparation has been a bit affected.”

“We’d be hopeful that on the day they’ll be there. Last week it wasn’t that important because we were just recovering, but this week we’re trying to get a bit of work done. You’d want them on the field.”

In better news for the county forward Niall O’Meara has recovered from the fractured thumb that kept him out of the first match and will be available for the replay.
