London and Meath registered first round wins in Allianz Hurling League Division 2B today while Connacht sides Mayo and Roscommon could not be split in the other fixture.

London made their long journey to Armagh count with an impressive 0-22 to 0-14 victory at the Athletic Grounds.

In a highly entertaining clash, the Exiles held the lead for the most part but were pushed all the way by a determined Orchard County outfit.

Beaten Kehoe Cup finalists Meath dug deep to claim a one-point win over Kehoe Shield winners Down at Pairc Esler by 2-16 to 1-18.

Steven Clynch was on fire for the Royals with 1-12 in a game which was keenly contested throughout.

Barry Slevin fired home Meath's other goal while Peter Durnin, Eoin Marsh and Paddy Conneely also claimed points for the visitors.

Paul Braniff scored Down's lone goal with Danny Toner and substitute Scott Nicholson also among the hosts' scorers.

Cathal Kenny (0-7) held his nerve to slot an injury-time point as Roscommon and Mayo finished all-square on an 0-18 to 1-15 scoreline at Elverys MacHale Park.

Mayo led by 0-10 to 1-5 at half-time. Naos Connaughton netted a 10th minute goal for the visitors after a long delivery from a Jerry Fallon free.

Mayo moved 0-16 to 1-8 ahead entering the final quarter with Kenny Feeney (0-12) particularly impressive in front of goal.

The hosts were reduced to 14 men following the dismissal of Keith Higgins on a second yellow card in the 65th minute.

Kenny drew the sides for the first time in the second half in the 68th minute and although Feeney put Mayo ahead late on, there was time for an equaliser which Kenny produced right at the death.
