Hawk-Eye technology will be used for the first time ever by the Camogie Association having approved a motion to use the system at its Annual Congress in March.

However, Hawk-Eye will also be used to record the fasted strike of the sliotar during the junior, intermediate and senior showdowns in Croke Park.

Using exclusive ball speed data available to the Association's sponsors, Liberty Insurance, the information of the fastest struck sliotar will be revealed on the big screen at half-time and full-time during each final.

The technology was first introduced last year for All-Ireland Hurling Championship games in Croker, with the fastest recorded speed to date measuring 181.1kph, registered by Kilkenny hurler TJ Reid.

The speed of the sliotar is measured using the eight cameras used by Hawk-Eye to track the flight of the ball in realtime, and will be based on shot attempts above the crossbar and within four metres of the uprights.

Speaking on the use of the technology, president of the Camogie Association Catherine Neary said: "Not only will it measure the speed of the ball, it will identify the dominant areas of play on the field through identifying where the ball is mostly hit from, so the data collected will also prove valuable from a coaching and games development point of view."

Many are tipping Cork defender Gemma O'Connor to register the fastest strike in the senior final against Galway given her physical strength as a corporal in the Irish Army.
