Gavin ratified as new Dubs boss

Jim Gavin has been confirmed as the new Dublin senior football manager tonight at a meeting of the Dublin County Board.

Gavin was ratified to take over from Pat Gilroy, who guided the Dubs to a long-awaited All-Ireland success last year before bowing out after August's semi-final defeat to Mayo.

The Round Towers, Clondalkin clubman had a successful reign as Dublin's Under-21 manager, leading them to All-Ireland titles at the grade in both 2010 and 2012.

With not other obvious candidate to oppose him, Gavin, a member of the Dubs' 1995 All-Ireland winning side, was the hot favourite to be Gilroy's successor.

Mick Bohan and Declan D'Arcy, who were part of that U-21 managerial set-up, will be selectors to Gavin in the new senior management team. Davy Dalton will be the third selector.
