GAA and Sky Sports primed for new five-year deal

It is being reported that the GAA and Sky Sports are set to renew their coverage of the Championship for a further five years at a cost of €55m to the British broadcaster.

It's expected that Sky will retain 14 live games to be shown exclusively on the channel each year.

Former GAA President Sean Kelly told Newstalk Breakfast that the deal is "a reality" and will give the association further scope to assess their workings with Sky.

"There will be people who will be upset, because when it comes to Championship time, there will be some games involving their county which they will not be able to see, live on tv. That's a pity, but I suppose a reality," said Kelly.

The Irish Independent report that the deal will see RTÉ retain 25 games, while BBC Northern Ireland will hold on to Ulster Championship matches.
