Both of today’s Fitzgibbon Cup hurling quarter-finals will go ahead after the GAA’s Disputes Resolution Committee (DRA) met this morning.
The games involving weekend hosts Limerick IT and IT Carlow; and Waterford IT and DIT had been in doubt, after Mary Immaculate College appealed a ruling by the Central Appeals Committee (CAC).
However, Mary I's request for "interim relief" has been refused by the DRA.
It means LIT host IT Carlow in Moylish at 2pm, and WIT face DIT at the WIT Sports Campus at 7pm.
The dispute centred over the eligibility of IT Carlow student James Gannon.
Gannon, who has also played Fitzgibbon Cup for UCD is studying a graduate course through Glanbia, but the Comhairle Ardoideachais (CA) Hearings committee initially ruled that the Ballyragget native was only studying a part-time course.
This was successfully appealed to the Central Appeals Committee by IT Carlow, only for Mary Immaculate to lodge an appeal to the DRA yesterday afternoon.
Limerick IT will host the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals this Friday, and the final will take place at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Saturday at 7.30pm
