Dublin to contest proposed €10,000 fine from challenge-game melee

Just three days out from the All-Ireland semi-final against Mayo, Dublin will this evening contest the proposed €10,000 fine handed down to them arising from a melee in their challenge game in Glasnevin last month.

Ballymun Kickhams' man Davey Byrne was one of two players handed a one-match ban and already served the suspension in the quarter-final win over Fermanagh. Byrne suffered facial injuries as a result of the incident.

In front of the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) this evening, Armagh will also query the €10,000 fine they were recommended by the Central Competitions Control Committee arising from the bust-up prior to throw-in. However, it is understood like Byrne their player has accepted his penalty.

Dublin manager Jim Gavin

As Jim Gavin's Dublin are expected to undergo their last training session in Glasnevin this evening before facing Mayo, it remains to be see if any of the management will attend the CHC meeting in Croke Park.

Dublin will also put a case forward against a ban handed down to Liam Rushe for his actions in the latter stages of the hurlers' All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Waterford in Thurles last month. Rushe was dismissed after an incident involving Maurice Shanahan.

The timing of the CHC meeting is far from ideal for Dublin. However, both the contesting of the fine and Rushe's case would have been heard last week only for the unavailability of Rushe.
