The Ballymun Kickhams player is understood to have suffered a fractured eye socket and a broken nose, amongst other injuries.

Intercounty games behind closed doors are now common place and Byrne was brought to Beaumont Hospital for treatment.

Dublin have been in breathtaking form this summer and they face Westmeath in the Leinster Final on Sunday.

Byrne spent a couple of nights in hospital and is unlikely to feature in Jim Gavin’s panel for the provincial final.

Armagh who are managed by Kieran McGeeney face Galway in the qualifiers this weekend which is a tricky home tie for the Orchard County.
