Dublin ladies won't be requesting replay over point controversy
The Dublin ladies footballers appear to have drawn a line under Sunday’s disallowed point controversy, after issuing a statement congratulating Cork on their All-Ireland final victory.
But the Dublin players and management reiterated their disappointment with the error which meant Carla Rowe’s point was waved wide.
And while there will be no appeal to have the game replayed, Dublin will instead focus on making sure the Hawkeye score detection facility is in place for future finals.
The statement read: “Dublin Players, Management and Executive congratulate Cork on winning the 2016 Senior All-Ireland final.
“We wish it to be noted that we are very disappointed that the score error could not be rectified on the field of play and we will focus our efforts to require that LGFA put processes in place so that no other team is subjected to such a situation.
“Dublin LGFA will be making no further comment on this issue.”
Earlier, Cork manager Ephie Fitzgerald had ruled out offering Dublin a replay.
Speaking to Red FM, Fitzgerald said: “The fact that there’s no HawkEye there isn’t down to us, that’s down to the powers that be. There won’t be any rematch, from my knowledge, and I asked yesterday.
“I asked the LGFA and there’s absolutely not, no. The referee’s report is final and that’s that. It’s over.
“I haven’t seen it (Rowe point) but you just have to suck it up obviously.”
