Dublin hurling star Ryan O’Dwyer is recovering in hospital in England after allegedly becoming the victim of an unprovoked attack over the weekend.
O’Dwyer, a Tipperary native who relocated and declared for Dublin in 2011, was in the English capital with his brother to attend the Rugby World Cup final on Saturday.
Instead he found himself in hospital with a suspected broken jaw and facial injuries after an unprovoked incident outside an unnamed London pub.
The incident reportedly involved a single punch, which knocked the 29-year-old to the ground.
O’Dwyer, a married father of one, works as a secondary school teacher in Templeogue and has won a Walsh Cup, a National Hurling League and a Leinster Senior Hurling Championship with Dublin.
