Donegal boss Gallagher delighted to welcome Rory Kavanagh back to panel

Donegal manager Rory Gallagher confirmed this morning that Rory Kavanagh is returning to the panel.

The 33-year-old last played in the All-Ireland final of 2014 and Gallagher says he's glad to have him back, adding he never wanted him to leave in the first place.

Gallagher told the Star newspaper he's not worried that Kavanagh has been away for a full season and says the extended break might actually have done him good.

"I have no issues with his athleticism," Gallagher said. "His body shape leaves him in very good condition.

"If you look at last year, the players who took extended breaks came back fresher.

"From talking to Rory, he has a serious appetite back himself."

Before leaving in 2014, the midfielder had been part of the Donegal senior panel since 2001, winning an All-Ireland, three Ulster titles and a National League title with the county.

Kavanagh was nominated for an All Star in 2012, the year they won the All-Ireland title.

News of his return has been greeted with delight by many fans.
