Donaghy rejects reports of full-time football

Kieran Donaghy has issued a statement in the aftermath of reports in the media that he was giving up work in order to concentrate full-time on his football career.

The 31-year-old has been made team captain of Kerry, who will look to defend their All-Ireland title in the upcoming championship.

Kieran Donaghy played a key role in Kerry's All-Ireland winning campaign in 2014.

Donaghy is leaving his current job, with Ulster Bank, and some newspapers reported that he intended to focus solely on football.

The Kerry star released a statement via Twitter last night and said those reports were inaccurate.

The statement read: “I’m finishing up in Ulster Bank Tralee in the coming days. I’d like to thank all staff and management at Ulster Bank for a great experience. It’s the right time and the start of a new journey for me.

“However contrary to reports in the media today I am already looking at new opportunities in employment and excited for what the future holds.”

Last year his Kerry team-mate Darran O’Sullivan attracted similar headlines when he left his job, also with Ulster Bank.
