Kerry’s Darran O’Sullivan has taken to Twitter to clarify reports today that he had quit his job in order to concentrate on his Gaelic football career.

He was quoted as saying: “I left Ulster Bank in November to concentrate on keeping the body right. It just wasn’t suiting me.”

However this afternoon, he has tweeted to explain his situation.

“I think people are misunderstanding the newspaper headlines, I left the bank to work as an athlete mentor as it was a job I wanted - to do and it would give me a more flexible timetable that would allow me to rehab my injury properly. Im definitely not going to be - a professional GAA player... I don't think I'd survive on travel expenses, so people can get their knickers out of a bunch.”

O’Sullivan describes himself in his Twitter profile as an “Athlete mentor with@SkySportsLFS” and yesterday posted a picture of himself at a Sky event with boxer Katie Taylor.

His comments as reported today had reignited debate about the level of commitment required for an inter-county career.
