Cork insist Looney omission from All-Ireland squad not related to camogie incident

Dual star Hannah Looney is a surprise omission from the Cork squad for Sunday’s TG4 All-Ireland ladies senior football final clash with Dublin, writes Jackie Cahill.

But Leeside sources have insisted that the player’s absence is not related to incident before the camogie decider when Looney and Kilkenny’s Colette Dormer were involved in a shoving match as both teams exchanged handshakes.

Looney, 19, has been an ever-present in Cork’s football championship squads this summer and showed up well on her debut in the Munster opener against Waterford.

The Aghada player scored 1-1 in the round-robin clash with Kerry and she also started when the counties met again in the provincial final.

In the All-Ireland series, Looney came off the bench to score a point in the quarter-final victory over Cavan and she replaced Orlagh Farmer at half-time as the Rebelettes beat Monaghan by three points at the semi-final stage.

Looney’s place on the panel for Sunday’s game is taken by Róisín O’Sullivan, who joins sisters Ciara, Doireann and Méabh on the list of 30 submitted to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association.

A Cork source insisted: "This is a footballing decision and not based on anything else."
