College hurling cup to be named after UCC legend John Corcoran

UCC legend John Corcoran will be remembered next year in a fitting tribute to the GAA stalwart, writes Steve Neville.

The Higher Education GAA board announced that from next season on the Fresher A hurling trophy will be contested in his name.

Mr Corcoran passed away earlier this year having managed Carbery to the Cork senior football championship in 2004. He was also a Cork senior selector from 2005 to 2007 and a selector on the UCC Sigerson-winning teams of 2011 and 2014.

Higher Education GAA Chairman Gerry Tully announced that the Fresher A hurling trophy will be contested in early March 'in John's beloved Mardyke'.

Mr Tully paid tribute to Mr Corcoran at the 2017 Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups draws, with the finals to take place in Connacht.
