2002 All-Star Kevin Cassidy has been confirmed as captain of the Donegal senior football team for the new season.

The wing-back/midfielder will take over as skipper from Neil Gallagher, who led the Tir Chonaill men to their first National Football League title last year.

Cassidy helped his club Gweedore to a Donegal county final win over St. Eunan's in 2006.

Donegal boss Brian McIver, whose side lost their Dr McKenna Cup opener to UUJ last Thursday, said: "My plan was to make the announcement at the game with UUJ, but Kevin wasn't available.

"I can confirm that Kevin will be the captain for this year."
