Brolly was incensed by the decision of the Armagh official to award Kerry a penalty in a dramatic Munster Final in Killarney.

“Wee Paudie, he wouldn’t know what a penalty was if it bit him in the***.”

GAA officials have always been extremely protective of their referees and a number of managers have receiving sideline bans for inappropriate comments in recent seasons.

According to reports in today’s Irish Examiner, the GAA expect that RTE will take action against Brolly for his criticism of the referee.

Brolly was forced to apologise to presenter Marty Morrissey for an inappropriate remark in May, while Tyrone’s Sean Kavanagh also received an apology from the former Derry attacker.

RTE’s Head of Sport Ryle Nugent warned Brolly about his future conduct following the insensitive remarks about Morrissey.

“Joe is acutely aware that his ill-conceived attempt at humour was both inappropriate and extremely hurtful and had no place in any broadcast.”
