The 2014 young hurler of the year Cathal Barrett is a serious doubt for Tipperary's Division 1 semi-final against Waterford after picking up a shoulder injury in training.
The 22-year-old sustained the problem on the team's warm weather camp in Spain this week and is set to undergo a MRI scan on the joint upon his return home.
Barrett was sent off for a double yellow card offence against Offaly in last month's quarter-final. Tipperary contested the decision, bringing the case to the Central Hearings Committee, but failed to have it overturned.
Seamus Callanan's red card in the same game was also contested but the CHC also upheld the referee's decision and the forward will miss the Waterford game. It was felt by the Tipperary management that neither case was worth pursuing to the Central Appeals Committee as the pair would likely have had to fly back from Spain to make their case.
Should Barrett pick up another double yellow offence within 48 weeks of last month's game, he will be suspended for one match.
Meanwhile, Ian Fahey faces a dilemma if Tipperary's U21 footballers' All-Ireland semi-final with Dublin is fixed for tomorrow week.
Fahey, man of the match in last night's Munster final win over Cork, is scheduled to play for Clonmel Celtic in their FAI Junior Cup semi-final against Sheriff YC in Tipperary town at 5.30pm. The 21-year-old plays left-back for Celtic.
