Former France midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that it is vital France forget about Saturday’s victory in Dublin in order to be in the right frame of mind for Wednesday's second leg at the Stade de France.

Petit, writing in his l’Equipe column, was delighted with how Les Blues went about their task in Croke Park, but advised them to forget about their one-goal advantage.

He said: “It is absolutely vital that they do not approach the match thinking that they won 1-0 in Ireland. These two confrontations are just like a match: there are two halves and we just won the first one.

“It’s necessary, therefore, to play the match with an intention to win one more time.”
