Dunlop bullish over Far East raid
Ed Dunlop sees no reason why Ouija Board cannot enhance her glittering CV with more glory in the Japan Cup on November 27 and the Hong Kong Cup on December 11.
The four-year-old, owned by Lord Derby, is set to take her chance in both races after a successful gallop this morning.
Last year’s English and Irish Oaks winner is reported to be in fine fettle and will fly out to Japan on Thursday.
“She’s very well and did her last piece of work before the race,” the Newmarket-based trainer told At The Races.
“She’s done two pieces of work – one today and one last Friday, which was an easy piece. We’ve just kept her ticking over.”
Ouija Board was last seen failing to land back-to-back victories in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, where she put in her best work at the finish when beaten a length and a quarter by all-the-way winner Intercontinental.
“Considering all the problems we had with the race being very slow, I was as satisfied as you can be without winning,” Dunlop continued.
“She looked like she wanted further in that race and probably quicker ground.
“She’s come out of it fantastically well and had a very easy few days when she came back.
“From leaving to go out there and coming back she only lost eight kilos and took the whole experience really well.”
