Dowie happy over rejected Johnson bid
22/12/2005 - 16:03:01Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie has welcomed the club’s decision to reject West Ham’s bid for striker Andrew Johnson.
Chairman Simon Jordan turned down a £5.5m (€8m) offer this week for the 24-year-old England international, who signed a new five-year deal with Palace in the summer.
But Dowie accepted the Eagles would find it very difficult to keep Johnson if his team fail to win promotion to the Barclays Premiership this term.
“It’s reassuring to hear the chairman say again that AJ is not for sale, but we’ve got to make sure we put some results together now,” said Dowie.
“He signed a new deal in the summer but clearly it’s going to be much harder to keep him when he has been out of the Premiership for a year.”
