Dowie expects Young to return
Charlton manager Iain Dowie expects Luke Young to be available for Saturday’s match with Chelsea after the defender returned early from England duty.
Young, 27, did not travel out to Macedonia with the rest of the national team squad ahead of tomorrow’s Euro 2008 qualifier in Skopje as a precautionary measure following his recent ankle problems.
The right-back missed the final few weeks of last season, and subsequently missed out on selection for the World Cup squad in the summer.
Dowie, though, maintains there are no fresh fitness concerns over his skipper.
“It was decided that Luke should return as a precautionary measure,” the Charlton manager insisted.
“He has been in outstanding form since the start of the season and we still expect him to be in consideration for the game at the weekend.”
Addicks striker Darren Bent, meanwhile, is hoping to be involved tomorrow, as he looks to add to his tally of three Premiership goals so far.
On-loan goalkeeper Scott Carson is away with the U21s in Switzerland and has been asked to stand by as cover for Paul Robinson and Ben Foster following Chris Kirkland’s back problem.
Charlton winger Darren Ambrose has withdrawn from the U21s because of a tight groin as Dowie looks to get his squad ready for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
