Donal Óg ruled out for season
Cork hurling captain Donal Óg Cusack will miss the rest of the 2012 season after suffering a serious Achilles injury in yesterday's Allianz League semi-final against Tipperary.
Cusack took to his Twitter page to confirm the extent of the injury as 'a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon'. He also informed his followers that he would be having an operation 'later today'.
The Cloyne clubman was stretchered off midway through the first half of the victory over Tipp in Thurles, having injured himself when trying to control a dipping shot from Thomas Stapleton.
The loss of such a talismanic player and top class net minder is a huge blow to Cork's hopes of winning the Division 1 title and challenging for Munster and All-Ireland honours later in the year.
Cusack was replaced by Anthony Nash yesterday afternoon and the Kanturk clubman acquitted himself well, pointing a long range free and also saving a stinging Eoin Kelly shot in injury-time.
Nash will be hopeful of wearing the number 1 jersey when the Rebels line out against Kilkenny in the Division 1 final at Semple Stadium on Sunday, May 6.
Vice-captain Patrick Horgan will take over the captaincy from the sidelined Cusack. The Glen Rovers forward has top scored for Cork throughout their league run, and accumulated 0-9 against Tipp yesterday.
