Compass Hill on course for Dewhurst tilt

John Murphy believes this week’s Naas runner-up Compass Hill could be one of several Group-class two-year-olds residing at his County Cork stable.

The American-bred chestnut made his introduction in the Frank Kenny Race on Monday afternoon and finished second to Jim Bolger’s potential Cheveley Park Stakes runner Lucida.

Murphy said: “I was disappointed he got beaten, but Jim Bolger assures me his is very good.

“I think we’ll find another maiden but ultimately the plan is the Dewhurst Stakes. I think he’ll get a mile in time.”

Murphy also has high hopes for Acclamation colt Seaforth, who was third to the Aidan O’Brien-trained Jamaica in a maiden at Galway last week.

“He’s another nice horse, again we’d like to find another maiden and then look at something like the Dewhurst or the Racing Post Trophy,” the trainer said.

“We’ve a really nice bunch this year. As the ground has been unusually quick in Ireland this summer, we’ve looked after them.”
