Club hurling championships round-up

Kiltale were crowned Meath SHC champions for the first time since 2007 as a Mark O’Sullivan goal helped them see off Killyon in today’s decider in Navan.

O’Sullivan’s 32nd-minute goal was the decisive score as Kiltale won by 1-14 to 0-14 to lift the Jubilee Cup for the fourth time in their history.

O’Sullivan took his tally to 1-3 when he knocked a Peter Durnin centre into the net and young free-taker Jack Regan finished with a handsome haul of 0-7.

Killyon, who were last county champions in 2005, closed the gap to three points in the closing stages with successive scores from Pauric McKeown, Raymond Massey and David Raleigh.

Free-taker Massey landed five placed balls in all and Killyon went close to scoring a goal on a couple of occasions, with goalkeeper Shane McGann and David Donoghue coming to the victors’ rescue.

Mount Leinster Rangers regained the Carlow senior hurling title with a 3-13 to 0-6 hammering of Erin’s Own at Dr. Cullen Park.

The victory added to Mount Leinster’s senior county successes from 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2011, with the club’s minors also being crowned Carlow champions today.

A late three-point burst saw Rathdowney-Errill lift the new Bob O’Keeffe Cup yesterday as they edged out Clough-Ballacolla in a gripping Laois SHC final replay.

Clough-Ballacolla suffered after losing Tom Delaney to a red card midway through the second half.

Gradually, Rathdowney erased Clough’s seven-point interval lead and those late points sealed a 0-17 to 0-14 triumph.

The Glenealy hurlers completed a three in-a-row of Wicklow titles by defeating 14-man Carnew Emmets on a 1-11 to 0-10 scoreline in Aughrim, while Cluainin had four points to spare over Carrick - 1-11 to 0-12 - in the Leitrim SHC decider.
