Cecil's new charge Picture perfect

Henry Cecil
Henry Cecil's Picture Editor made the perfect start to his career with a debut victory in the EBF crownhotel-bawtry.com Maiden Stakes at Doncaster today.
Sent off at 10-1 in a market dominated by the John Gosden-trained Nathaniel, the Dansili colt was settled right in the centre of the pack by Tom Queally and was always travelling ominously well.
Nathaniel, sent off at odds-on after chasing home Cecil's Frankel on debut, tried to put the race to bed as he quickened to the front passing the furlong marker, but Queally did not panic and while the runner-up rallied, he had a short head in hand passing the post.
"It was good performance for his first run," said the winning jockey.
"He travelled great and he's a horse who stays well. He was a little bit green but I wasn't hard on him - I only gave him one smack.
"The ground is getting quicker."
Gosden, was not too disappointed with the effort of Nathaniel, adding: "He ran a great race but he just didn't see the other one coming.
"He is bred to go over a mile and a half and you could see that as he stuck his neck out and went again.
"He's very much one for next year but we may give him another run depending on how he is."
