Cahill not close to comeback, say Everton
Everton have dismissed reports from Australia that Tim Cahill will be back in training next week.
The 26-year-old midfielder is struggling to overcome a knee ligament injury in time to play in the World Cup finals for the Socceroos. He will need another scan in a fortnight and a visit to a specialist before his training can be stepped up.
Everton’s physio Mick Rathbone said: “Tim is making good progress but he is not close to returning to training, that is for sure.
“He is about 11 days post-injury now and is doing some light work on the exercise bike. The plan is that in about two-and-a-half weeks post-injury, he will start some light jogging and we will see how it progresses from there.
“Tim has another appointment with the consultant in two weeks’ time for a further scan. We will evaluate then and see how it goes from there.”
Cahill was originally told he would need six weeks to recover from the injury he picked up against Birmingham on April 22.
