Bad weather prevents play again in Hawaii

Play was abandoned for a second straight day at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii because of extreme weather conditions.

Organisers had hoped to play round one of the tournament today after high winds forced its cancellation yesterday, but the poor conditions had not abated and the decision was taken to push play back to tomorrow morning.

Webb Simpson was leading on three under after seven holes when play was stopped yesterday, but all the players will begin from scratch when the weather allows to tournament to get under way properly.

Organisers said the tournament would be cut to 54 holes, with 36 due to be played tomorrow and 18 on Monday. Tomorrow’s weather forecast is considerably better for the area.

Slugger White, the PGA Tour’s vice president of rules and operations, told the tour’s website: “I went out there this morning about 6:30 (am).

"I dropped a ball on the 10th green, on the back of the green just dropped it and (it) rolled off 20 yards off the front of the green. We did have balls that were going uphill on 10 a foot and a half.”
